As of October 2021, Nepal is open to tourists from all around the world and every outdoor activity, including tours, trekking, climbing, jungle safari, etc. This huge step by the government of Nepal has given new hope to folks working in the travel and tour industry after shutdown for two years. The industry and the entrepreneurs have faced a great deal of loss because of the lockdown, but now it's time to revive tourism in Nepal with precautions.

Talking about the daily cases, it is declining rapidly, and the recovery rate is hiking too. Many locals have gotten their second doses of vaccine. The Covid-19 case is far under control, and the market is completely open. Travelers have slowly started to visit Nepal as well. 

Below is the list of things international travelers have to follow to travel in Nepal:

Entry Protocol for International Travelers in Nepal- October 2021 Update

These are the guidelines for vaccinated and unvaccinated travelers published by the Nepal government in late September.

For Fully Vaccinated Travelers:

  • You have to be fully vaccinated at least 14 days before entering Nepal.
  • The travelers who are fully vaccinated do not have to quarantine.
  • An on-arrival visa is available at all entry points of Nepal, or you can also get the visa at the Nepal Embassy or Consulate in your country.

For Unvaccinated/Not Fully Vaccinated Travelers:

You cannot get the on-arrival visa at any entry point in Nepal.
You have to apply for a visa in your home country at the Nepal Embassy Office or Consulate after getting a recommendation letter from your travel company.
Upon arriving in Nepal, you have to be quarantined for ten days in a hotel. It is mandatory. After the tenth day, you will taste for Covid-19, and as per the result, you can proceed further with your plans.

Necessary Documents:

  • Hotel booking details 
  • Vaccination certificate
  • 72 hours negative Covid-19 test report 
  • Mountaineering/trekking permits (if applicable)
  • Recommendation letter from travel/trekking agency in Nepal (if you are unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated)
  •  CCMC form filled confirmation (barcode)

Note:CCMC (Covid-19 Crisis Management Centre) is established by the Nepal Tourism Board. Travelers have to compulsory fill the CCMC application form to get the QR code before landing at Kathmandu Airport.

Best Activities to do in Nepal 2022-2023

  • Trek in the Himalayas. Explore the famous Khumbu region or Annapurna region. If you love challenges, go trekking in the Kanchenjunga region or the Manaslu region. If you want to travel back in time, trek to Upper Mustang or Dolpo
  • Climb peaks and mountains with the assistance of experienced guides.
  • Go on a tour to Lumbini and get to know where Lord Gautam Buddha was born. Walk down the divine peaceful garden and visit Maya Devi temple. Explore many other monasteries and temples. 
  • Taste the wilderness of Nepal in Chitwan or Bardia national parks. Junglee safari, long forest walk, canoeing, elephant bathing, and local village visits are a few popular activities. 
  • Explore the two biggest cities in Nepal- Kathmandu, and Pokhara. 
  • Some famous tours are- Buddhist Heritage Tour,Kathmandu Pokhara Chitwan Lumbini Tour, and Kathmandu Chitwan Pokhara Tour.

Trekking in Nepal 

Nepal has many regions where one can go trekking. Every region has its unique landscape, cultural heritage, and other specialties. And choosing one trekking region as the best would not be fair. 

We will be giving further information about trekking in the Himalayas below:

Annapurna Region

Located in the northwestern side of Nepal, the Annapurna region has the best and most famous trekking routes. Pokhara, the City of Lakes, is the gateway to the starting point of many popular treks like Annapurna Base Camp (4,130 m), Upper Mustang (3,840 m), Annapurna Circuit, Manang (3,519 m), etc. Not only long but there are many options for short trekking in the Annapurna region. 

Hundreds and thousands of travel enthusiasts trek in the Annapurna region every year. The trail is adventurous and beautiful. You will be walking through lush forests of rhododendron, fir, pine, oak, etc. In the lower part of the trail, people from many different communities like Brahmin, Chhetri, Magar, Gurung, and others reside. 

Trekking in the Annapurna region gives a big chance to have a glimpse of the culture and tradition of these local communities. You will get to visit temples and monasteries along the route. Some parts of the Annapurna region boasts arid-dry landscape, some similar to Tibetan landscape, snow-capped western Himalayan mountains, green meadows, picturesque villages, narrow alleyways, lovely apple orchards, caves, and stunning lakes.

Everest Region

The world-renowned trekking trail to Everest Base Camp (5,364 m) is located in the Everest region. Other than that, there are many other easy and strenuous treks in this region. Whether you want to reach the lap of Mt. Everest, cross high Himalayas passes, explore high alpine lakes, or traverse isolated valleys, trekking in the Everest region is a once in lifetime opportunity.

Experience the warm hospitality of locals and get to see their simple mountain lifestyle. Have close interaction with the legendary Sherpas and listen to their heroic stories of mountains. Visit ancient monasteries. The trail ascends through the Sagarmatha National Park, where you can see a range of flora and fauna. The trail crosses many streams, suspension bridges, verdant forests, villages, and glacier moraines.

Mountains like Everest (8,848 m), Makalu (8,481 m), Cho Oyu (8,188 m), Thamserku (6,623 m), Ama Dablam (6,812 m), Island Peak (6,189 m), Cholatse (6,440 m), Baruntse (7,129 m), Lhotse (8,516 m), Nuptse (7,861 m), and numerous others decorate the trail. The landscapes are heavenly. Moreover, because of the pandemic, only a handful of travelers have visited this region, therefore it is the best time to enjoy peaceful and less-crowded trekking in the Khumbu region.

Langtang Region

Langtang region is also known as the Valley of Glaciers. Located in the north-central part of the Himalayas, 51 km away from Kathmandu Valley, the Langtang region has the quickest access to the trail from Kathmandu. Trekking in the Langtang region explores the diverse flora and fauna of Langtang National Park and offers distinctive trekking alongside the local villages.

If you love birds, lakes, and glaciers, then you have to trek in the Langtang region. This region is famous for guest house trekking. You will stay overnight with the locals and get to know them closely. The trail passes by many remote settlement areas, crossing wooden bridges, meadows, and landslide-prone areas. Likewise, you will come across beautiful waterfalls, streams, and ancient monasteries on the route.

Langtang Lirung (7,234 m), Dorje Lakpa (6,966 m), Yala Peak (5,520 m), Ganesh Himal (7,422 m), and Shishapangma (8,013 m) are some of the mountains you will see while trekking. Some trekkers trek up to the holy Gosaikunda Lake (4,380 m) and even extend it into the less-crowded but gorgeous Helambu region. The trekking route is fantastic and boasts a fairytale-book kind of scenery.

Manaslu and Kanchenjunga Region

Manaslu lies in the west-central part of Nepal, whereas Kanchenjunga is in the eastern part of the Himalayas. Trekking in these regions is famous among trekkers who love challenges and off-beaten trails. Manaslu and Kanchenjunga both are less developed in terms of tourist infrastructure. There are only a handful of very basic tea houses along the trail, which makes trekking here even more difficult.

Usually, trekkers have to carry tents and food supplies. The trails are less crowded, and the views are fantastic. During trekking in the Manaslu region, the trail goes through Manaslu Conservation Area. You will be following an ancient salt-trading route along the Budhi Gandaki river. Likewise, The trail crosses Larkya La pass (5,106 m) and goes through dense forests, crossing rivers and streams. 

Similarly, trekking in the Kanchenjunga region goes through the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area which protects diverse flora and rare wildlife, including red panda, royal Bengal tiger, and Himalayan black bear, snow leopard, and many others. Not many treks or know about trekking routes of the Kanchenjunga region, which has kept it exclusive. The views of mountains and villages are breathtaking.

Precautions are taken by the Adventure White Mountain team to prevent any risk of Covid-19 during the trips

  • You will stay overnight in designated hotels where the entire staff is vaccinated.
  • We are running a small group trekking and tour at the moment to control the crowd. At the same time, also organized private treks and tours.
  • Our staff and guests' health is the top priority for us, therefore we do not take any step that compromises it.
  • All the gears and essentials are properly tested and disinfected.
  • We make sure that there is no case of Covid-19 along the route or the lodges we stay in during the trek.
  • In case any of our guests see symptoms of Covid-19 or get Covid-19 during the trek, we follow our professionally planned protocol to offer as much assistance as possible.
