Useful Information

The ideal time for Everest Base Camp Trek via Gokyo Lakes and Cho La pass

To trek to Gokyo Lakes and EBC, we recommend spring and autumn for the best and most comfortable journey. These are rush trekking seasons. Trekkers from all around the world travel in the Khumbu region, so the venture gets fun. The most important thing for a safe trek in the Himalayas is stable weather so that you can be on your itinerary and not see any natural obstacles along the way.

Spring and autumn, in terms of these requirements, are perfect. Bloomed trails, stunning mountain views, and a clear sky with a mild climate are the highlights of these two seasons.

Everest Base Camp Trek via Gokyo Lakes and Cho La pass difficulty

Everest Base Camp Trek with Gokyo Lakes is a difficult trek and requires previous trekking experience. The terrain is rough and steep. There are glacial and moraine walks. Someday you might have to walk 7 to 8 hours as well, so strong stamina is needed. It is a high-altitude remote trek, so there is always the lingering risk of altitude sickness, and limited facilities make the journey even tougher.

Don't get discouraged by the above information. If you are well prepared, determined, and have good support, then you can do Everest Base Camp Trekking with Gokyo Lakes without any worries. To prepare for the trek, go on hikes and increase your walking hours. Build up your core strength and stamina.

Mode of transportation during the trek

We use a private vehicle for all of our ground transportation during the Everest Base Camp Trek with Gokyo Lakes as per the itinerary. Similarly, the package cost includes domestic flights between Lukla and Kathmandu. We also have pickup and drop service from/to the airport as per our itinerary.

Electricity and Charging Facilities

Electricity is available in all lodges throughout the trekking route to charge your devices. The service provider may ask for a few extra bucks for the service. It's the Himalayas. Sadly nothing is free here. There are no charging spots in the room. However, you can find separate charging stations in the lodges. For a long journey like this, we highly recommend solar chargers and spare batteries.

Sim Card and WiFi

The internet connection during the Everest Base Camp Trek via Gokyo Lakes and Cho La pass is not stable. Because the region is remote, the network connection comes and goes as you move. The higher the elevation gets, the unstable the internet/network gets. The villages like Lukla, Namche Bazaar, and Tengboche have wifi services at some lodges. However, they might not be fast as the city and cost you extra bucks.

Luggage

For trekking, we use a duffel bag as our main luggage. We pack all of our trekking clothing and other necessities in a duffel bag. Porters carry this bag. The weight limit for each trekker is 10 kgs. You can get a day pack for essentials like money, a camera, batteries, etc. The weight limit for the day pack is 5 kgs for each trekker. The additional suitcases you can store in your hotel's room for free of charge.

Child policy

Everest Base Camp Trek and Gokyo Lakes are not suitable for kids. The trail is very remote and crosses a challenging pass, which may get too much for a kid. There can be some exceptional cases though if the kid can tolerate the difficulties, so better talk to our travel consultant and get more in detail.

Tipping to crew members

We let our guests tip as much as they wish to our on-field crew members like guides, porters, and drivers. You can tip whatever you like at the end of the trip. For instance, we usually see trekkers tip in a group. Each member hands out USD 2 for the driver, USD 5 for the tour guide, and USD 100 for the trek guide. It's not fixed again.

Personal expenses

For personal expenses, you should budget USD 15 for each day to buy services that our Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Lakes Trek package does not cover like hot showers, wifi, snacks, etc. Similarly, the package cost also does not cover international flights, tips, travel insurance, shopping, etc.

Insurance, Rescue, Evacuation

Everest Base Camp Trek via Gokyo Lakes and Cho La pass do not necessarily need travel insurance, but it is quite a difficult trek and involves risks of altitude sickness. Likewise, if any medical emergency occurs during the trek, the only way to provide prompt medical assistance is through travel insurance. So, we highly recommend you get travel insurance that covers airlift up to 6,000 meters and medical bills.
