Visualize a breathtaking panorama of mountains, glistening with golden glory, as the first rays of the sun peek from behind them. Does this sound like a clichéd scene from a documentary? Well, you can actually experience it live from Poon Hill. You will have to visit it yourself to experience it first-hand.
Situated inside the Annapurna Conservation Area, Ghorepani Poon Hill trek falls in the route of Annapurna Base Camp Trek. The trail takes you through the depths of forests and along the rivers. Climbing up and down the hills might make you tired, but the captivating views will never stop motivating you. The rhododendron forests with the red, white and pink flowers make the landscape no less than a romantic movie scene. Sliding through the frozen paths at some points will make you a child again. You will encounter many natural waterfalls, some even frozen.
The trail will take you past many Gurung villages, including Ghandruk, Ghorepani, Tadapani, Birethanti, Hile, etc. Experiencing the life of rural Nepal and being a part of it is an incredible cultural journey. At Ghandruk, the Old Gurung Museum exhibits different kitchen wares, jewelry, hand tools, etc. showcasing the old Gurung lifestyle. They also have arrangements for Gurung dresses if you want to be photographed. Apart from this, the houses and architectures of the villages reflect rural Nepali setting. The white painted houses with dried corn hanging from the balcony, and beautiful flowers blooming in the yard makes every angle "picture perfect".
The major highlight of the trek is the sunrise view from the top of Poon Hill. After staying overnight at Ghorepani, an hour of the hike will take us to the top of Poon Hill. The sight from the hilltop is simply magnificent, giving us a 360o views of Annapurna II (7937m), Annapurna III 7855m), Annapurna IV (7525m), Annapurna South (729m),Dhaulagiri (8167m), Annapurna I (8091m), Nilgiri (6940m), Tukuche (6920m), Varaha Shikhar (7847m), Lamjung Himal (6931m) and others.
