About Gosaikunda Trek
Gosaikunda Trekking has several importances and one of them is mythology. Many tourists who love crowd less trekking prefer this trail as the site offer scenic view of mountains and beautiful lakes. The lakes are the main attraction of this trek.Gosaikunda is located in Rasuwa district of Nepal. It (Gosaikunda) is a medium sized lake and it is a source of Trishuli River. ‘Kunda’ is Nepali word for lake. The site is popular destination for migratory birds from Siberia. While returning to Russia from Chitwan these migratory birds take rest in Gosaikunda. The other beautiful part of this trekking is that you get chance to witness more than 100 lakes in this area ranging from small to medium size.
At the time of Janaipurnima (full moon day of August) many Hindu pilgrims pave their way here to change their cords (threads which Hindu wear on their body). They take bath in the kunda and change the cord every year.It is also said that Lord Shiva drank water from Gosaikunda to get release from the burning of his throat. He drank poison which came out on the process of churning ocean and the poison could have destroyed the world and to save the world he drank it collecting it in his throat.It is a rewarding trek showing you several peaks of Nepal such as: Himal Chuli (7,893 m), Manaslu (8,156 m) and Ganesh Himal (7,406 m) on the west. Similarly, Langtang Lirung is seen on north.
